About Our Laboratory
We study "anything useful connected to the Internet" — sensors, IoT, cloud computing, blockchain, and server platforms. Our laboratory is led by Professor Hitoshi Ueno, who has extensive industry experience at Hitachi, Ltd. in computer architecture and operating system development, including the mainframe OS VOS3 and the Virtage virtual machine for Intel architecture.

Research Topics
Unconstrained Vital-Sign Sensing with Piezoelectric Sensors
PVDF piezoelectric sensors detect arterial vibration, enabling "wear-free" measurement of heart rate and respiration — the sensor simply sits under a cushion or carpet, with nothing attached to the body. Ongoing research applies this signal to personal identification (spectral peak shapes remain stable for the same person over months) and to real-time pulse-wave analysis for detecting cardiovascular anomalies.
Remote Monitoring System for Elderly People
Sheet-type piezoelectric sensors (30 cm × 30 cm) laid across the floor allow a monitoring center to observe residents via the Internet. When an elderly person falls, vital signs such as heart rate and respiration can be checked remotely — a camera-free, privacy-friendly solution. Our monitoring program "HAmon" supports twelve sensor sheets in real time.
Blockchain and Internet Services
We also investigate blockchain (cryptocurrency) technology and other Internet service platforms, including cloud and server technologies.
